Whether fans want to see it or not, change is an inevitable part of the NFL.

Roster turnover happens because of free agency, trades and retirements, and there is little doubt the 2025 Chiefs team will look different from the one that lost 40-22 to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

The Chiefs have some key players who will become free agents: guard Trey Smith, linebacker Nick Bolton, safety Justin Reid, defensive linemen Mike Pennel, Charles Omenihu and Tershawn Wharton, along with three wide receivers: Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, DeAndre Hopkins and Justin Watson.

After Super Bowl LIX, Reid was aware that he may have played in his final game with the Chiefs.

“Today didn’t go our way but I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish this year and the last three years together,” Reid wrote on X. “I love Kansas City. I pray this isn’t the end but if it is — I just want to say that I love and appreciate every single one of you that welcomed me and supported my family here. You are in my heart forever.”

Nick Bolton, who played at the University of Missouri, was selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After the Super Bowl loss, he was asked about his future.

Bolton said Kansas City “feels like home,” an indication he’d like to remain with the Chiefs.

“I’m going to take this one, take 24 hours or 48 hours to reflect on how the year went, talk to my agent,” Bolton said. “But I’ve been there for seven years. It feels like home. Welcomed me with open arms as a little 18-year-old with short hair, no facial hair. Let me go through growing pains and find out my own identity, and it reflects home.”
