Swiftie trolls Eagles fans with Taylor Swift billboard in Philadelphia ahead of Super Bowl
There was a buzz of activity Wednesday on radio row at Super Bowl LIX.
Small crowds gathered around national television broadcasters who were recording their shows. Radio hosts interviewed former players, at least those who weren’t on the air themselves.
Hundreds of people were in the New Orleans Convention Center for radio row, so trying to spot someone could be difficult. Nevertheless, Jake Duhaime texted to say: “You can’t miss me.”
Duhaime wasn’t wrong. He’s a Taylor Swift fan, who wore his heart on his sleeve. Well, make that an entire sequined jacket that was a tribute to Swift and the Chiefs.
“I’ve seen her 20 times in concert,” Duhaime said. “She’s the best. I was on this bandwagon for the last almost 20 years now. And it’s funny, because I’m 40. I’m not exactly the demographic that happened before this last tour.
“I used to go see her like ‘Red Tour’ in 2013, ‘1989’ in 2015, I used to tell people (at concerts) this reminds me of the hour before the Super Bowl, just the energy and the excitement and the anticipation. I was like, the closest thing to this is the Super Bowl. So when Taylor starts dating in the NFL, and I’m like, ‘Oh this is awesome.’ Like, you just bring the two together, and then it just pisses off all the right people.”
Indeed the confluence of the Chiefs and Swift has made some football fans irrationally angry.
Duhaime set out to troll that subset of fans who live in Philadelphia.
“I think we both love to manifest things for sure, and you can’t say it’s not real, because we’re here, right? Whatever she was doing, I’m sure it helped.”
As vice president of integrated marketing for the talent agency Maxx Management, Duhaime reached out to Tasty Clean, a dental appliance cleaner with an idea of how to make a splash in Philadelphia.
The result was this billboard that popped up near Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles. Philadelphia will be facing the Chiefs on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.
Tayvoodoo is the phrase coined by Swifties to explain when the Chiefs pull out a close victory. Eagles fans certainly don’t want to see the Chiefs win an 18th straight game decided by one score.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is dating Swift, was asked about Tayvoodoo on Monday at Super Bowl LIX Opening Night.
“I think we both love to manifest things for sure, and you can’t say it’s not real, because we’re here, right?” Kelce said with a smile. “Whatever she was doing, I’m sure it helped and definitely for me not being there to support her (on tour) during those weeks, it made me feel like I was there.”
That was a sweet response. On the other hand, Duhaime’s decision to poke fun at Eagles fans wasn’t quite as tender.
“You guys are all too nice. You Midwesterners. I’m from Boston. I know these Philly people,” Duhaime said. “I live with them, and one was my college roommate. ... When this Taylor thing started to happen, some started to paint the picture of if they ever got to play in a Super Bowl against each other, you’re gonna sit there for that entire two weeks knowing the NFL does not want (the Eagles) to win. It spooks them. It’s just It rattles them.”
