In a Supreme Court decision issued Friday, the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling was overturned, removing the federally protected right to abortion before viability.
Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt signed the state’s “trigger ban” law minutes later, effectively outlawing abortion in the state except in the most extreme cases.
Under that law, abortion is only permissible if the life or health of a pregnant person is in jeopardy. We have yet to see how this exception will be interpreted by doctors and prosecutors.
