Winter storm hits Kansas City

Another round of winter weather has arrived in Kansas City, bringing with it ice, snow and wind gusts up to 35 mph. The storm has caused slick roads as well as school and office closures.

Schools across the Kansas City metro have announced they will be closed or switching to remote classes as a winter storm heads to the area on Thursday.

The storm is expected to blow through Kansas City starting Wednesday around midnight, bringing snow, ice and wind gusts up to 35 mph. A number of school districts have already said they will be canceling classes as a result of the inclement weather.

Here’s a list of area schools affected:

Belton School District

All classes have been canceled and the district doesn’t have any virtual days left. Snow day will need to be made up.

Blue Springs School District

Schools will be closed, but students will attend classes virtually.

Blue Valley Schools

All schools will be closed.

Center School District

All schools will be closed. Students will attend classes virtually.

Fort Osage School District

Schools will be closed, but students will attend classes virtually.

Grain Valley School District

All schools will be closed. Students will attend classes virtually.

Grandview School District

All schools will be closed. Students will attend classes virtually.

Harrisonville School District

All classes have been canceled.

Independence School District

All classes, including early education classes, will be canceled. Kids Safari will be open at combined sites.

Kansas City Public Schools

All schools announced a day off Thursday prior to the inclement weather. Friday is also a day off for the district and Monday is President’s Day. Classes will resume Tuesday.

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools

All schools will be closed. Classes are canceled throughout the day for staff and students.

Kearney School District

Classes are canceled, including Kids Club, Puppy Pound, Forrest Friends and Acorn Patch.

Lansing Unified School District

All schools will be closed.

Leavenworth Unified School District

All schools will be closed.

Lee’s Summit Schools

All schools will be closed. Students will attend classes virtually.

Liberty School District

All schools will be closed. Friday is a day off for the district and Monday is President’s Day. Classes will resume Tuesday.

North Kansas City School District

All schools are closed. Friday is a day off for teachers and Monday is President’s Day. School will resume on Tuesday.

Olathe Public Schools

All schools are closed.

Park Hill School District

Schools will be closed, but students will attend classes virtually.

Park University

All campuses are closed Thursday. Some classes will be held online.

Pleasant Hill Schools

All schools will be closed and daycare services are canceled.

Raymore-Peculiar School District

All schools will be closed. Students will be able to attend classes virtually. Friday is a day off for the district and classes will resume Tuesday.

Raytown School District

All schools announced a day off Thursday prior to the inclement weather. Friday is also a day off for the district and Monday is President’s Day. Classes will resume Tuesday.

Smithville Schools

Classes are canceled. No virtual classes either.

Shawnee Mission School District

All schools are closed. Daycare services are canceled. There will be no remote learning or teaching.

University of Missouri-Kansas City

Students will attend classes through remote learning.

West Platte School District

All schools are closed.
