Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster could be available for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that Smith-Schuster will practice, meaning the wide receiver is closer to be being cleared from the NFL’s five-step concussion protocol.
“For it to be official, he has to go through a practice, so he’ll go through that,” Reid said. “He is feeling better.”
Smith-Schuster suffered the concussion on a controversial hit in Week 10’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He missed all three days of practice last week and didn’t play in the Chiefs’ 30-27 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
In addition to Smith-Schuster’s presence on the practice field, the Chiefs are expected to have safety Juan Thornhill (calf) and cornerback Chris Lammons (concussion) working in some capacity.
“With Thornhill, we’re going to see,” Reid said.
The Chiefs later in the afternoon designated Thornhill as a limited participant. Smith-Schuster, Lammons, linebacker Nick Bolton (hamstring), offensive lineman Lucas Niang (knee), cornerback Jaylen Watson (hand), running back Jerick McKinnon (hamstring, shoulder) and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (knee) practiced fully.
Meanwhile, Reid announced that left guard Joe Thuney (ankle) and wide receiver Kadarius Toney (hamstring) will not practice.
Thuney has been dealing with the ankle injury this season but hasn’t missed any games. Toney suffered the injury in the first half of Week 11’s game against the Chargers.
The Chiefs are expected to release the injury report with practice designations later Wednesday afternoon.
