Chiefs-Titans highlights: Kansas City beats Tennessee in exciting overtime game

The Chiefs are set for a Week 9 matchup with a familiar foe when the Tennessee Titans arrive for a Sunday Night Football showdown at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

These two teams, off to identical 5-2 starts through seven games, know each other well. They’ve squared off seven times, including the postseason, since Andy Reid arrived in Kansas City as head coach in 2013.

The Chiefs hold a 30-25 edge in the all-time series, including an 18-11 record at home, but the Titans have had the Chiefs’ number since 2013, winning five of the last seven. Tennessee’s two losses in that span came in the playoffs.

The Chiefs are still favored by 12 points Sunday against the visiting Titans — the largest line of any meeting between the two teams in that stretch.

Both teams sit atop their divisions thus far. This particular Sunday Night Football game is one of just two matchups in Week 9 that featured teams that both have winning records (the other was Sunday’s Bills-Jets contest, won by the Jets).

Final score: Chiefs 20, Titans 17

The Chiefs scored a field goal 6 minutes into overtime, kicked by Harrison Butker. Titans got possession, but were unable to score.

They finally got another score with a big run by Mahomes with 3 minutes remaining. The Chiefs got three chances at a two-point conversion thanks to flags, and completed it on their third try, tying the game.

Why did Travis Kelce throw his helmet?

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had a pass go off his hands early in the third quarter, which resulted in a Titans interception.

As he was leaving the field, Kelce showed his frustration and heaved his helmet toward the sideline.

Third-quarter: Titans 17, Chiefs 9

Several minutes into the second half, the Titans kicked a field goal to increase their lead to 8. They’ve scored all 17 of their points without any answer from the Chiefs.
