Here is who national experts are predicting will win KC Chiefs-Tennessee Titans game
The Chiefs have played four road games this season, and the average margin of victory has been 14 points in those games. That includes a three-point loss to the Colts, so KC’s margin of victory in away games is 18 points.
Games at Arrowhead Stadium have been a different story. The Chiefs have played three games at home, and they’ve been decided by a total of eight points.
The Chiefs are 2-1 at home this season. Can they win No. 3 at Arrowhead in a “Sunday Night Football” game against the Titans?
Here is what 62 national experts are saying about the game, which kicks off at 7:20 p.m. and will air on KSHB (Ch. 41).
All six writers at USA Today went with the Chiefs: Jarrett Bell (34-24 final score), Chris Bumbaca (24-16), Nate Davis (31-20), Safid Deen (27-20), Tyler Dragon (28-20) and Lorenzo Reyes (31-21). Here is part of what Reyes wrote: “Tennessee’s offense, which can control the line of scrimmage and chew the clock, makes it tough for them to get blown out. Henry is in full King mode.”
Six of seven writers at CBS Sports predicted the Chiefs winning: Pete Prisco, Jared Dubin, Ryan Wilson, Will Brinson, Dave Richard and Jamey Eisenberg. Taking the Titans: John Breech. Prisco predicted a 31-21 score. He wrote in part: “This is the game of the week, featuring Derrick Henry against Patrick Mahomes. It’s the runner vs. the passer. Give me the passer. The Titans are playing a second straight road game, while the Chiefs are off a bye and coach Andy Reid is outstanding off a bye.”
Picking the Chiefs are Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith and Mike Florio. Smith sees a 28-17 final. He wrote in part: “Two 5-2 teams meet in a game that has major AFC playoff implications and could determine which one of them is at home if they meet again in January.” Florio predicted a 30-21 final. He wrote: “How can a 5-2 team be a 12.5-point underdog against another 5-2 team?”
All five Audacy writers think the Chiefs will win.
A 35-24 Chiefs win is the prediction from NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal. This is an excerpt of his story: The last time we saw the Chiefs, they eclipsed 40 points against one of the NFL’s best defenses with Patrick Mahomes being touched just three times. The Titans’ defensive front is scary, but Mahomes is an expert when it comes to picking out mismatches. Derrick Henry is on one right now, and the Titans are stubborn enough to keep running him even if they are trailing.”
A 31-20 Chiefs victory is the call from the Tennessean’s Nick Suss. He wrote in part: “The Titans have come too far since that game. But short of a consistent passing attack, the Titans don’t have enough firepower to keep up with Mahomes and the Chiefs on their home field.”
A 31-22 Chiefs victory is the prediction from Bill Bender of the Sporting News. This is an excerpt from his story: ”Patrick Mahomes II is 1-2 against the Titans, and that includes the AFC championship victory in 2020. This game will feel like that in the second half. The line is still too high.”
Each of the three Pro Football Network reporters went with the Chiefs: Dalton Miller (28-19 final score), Dallas Robinson (30-18) and Adam Beasley (30-16). Here is a snippet of what Robinson wrote: “Kansas City’s offense is overwhelming. They’ve scored at least 30 points in three of their last four games and posted more than 500 yards of offense against the 49ers’ vaunted defense in Week 8. Expect Mahomes to continue his MVP campaign and remain efficient, even if the Titans manage to limit his volume.”
A 34-24 Chiefs win is the prediction from Yardbarker’s Chris Mueller. Here is an excerpt from his story: “Kansas City got to rest up last week after hammering San Francisco. The Chiefs added Kadarius Toney via trade, in one of those “if it works, it’s going to be borderline unfair” deals. Toney is a huge wild card, but he’s apparently healthy now after major hamstring issues, which would mean that Kansas City is pairing one of the league’s most intriguing young talents with one of its two best quarterbacks. Pretty good deal, wouldn’t you say?”
A 30-17 Chiefs victory is the call from FanSided’s Matt Verderame. This is what he wrote about the game: “The Titans are 5-2 and still get 11 points against the Chiefs. Of course, getting Kansas City is at home, off a bye, in primetime. Tough spot for Kansas City.”
Seven of eight “Sunday Night Football” experts thought the Chiefs would win. Only Tony Dungy picked the Titans.
A Chiefs win is the pick from the Athletic’s Vic Tafur. Here is a snippet from this story. “Andy Reid is famous for always winning after a bye week, but the Chiefs are only 9-13 against the spread under Reid when double-digit favorites, including 7-9 with Patrick Mahomes. Can Derrick Henry kill some clock? Sure. Do I trust the Titans defense — I mean, everybody besides Jeffery Simmons — to keep it close enough?”
A pair of ESPN analysts picked the Chiefs: Eric Moody (30-20 final score) and Seth Walder (33-13). Turron Davenport made this bold prediction: “The Titans’ defense will generate three turnovers against the Chiefs. Kansas City is averaging 1.1 turnovers per game while the Titans defense has taken the ball away 1.6 times each contest. Patrick Mahomes had two fumbles and an interception the last time he faced Tennessee.”
Seven other pundits at ESPN also see the Chiefs winning: Matt Bowen, Mike Clay, Domonique Foxworth, Dan Graziano, Jason Reid, Laura Rutledge and Seth Wickersham.
The Star’s Jesse Newell predicted a 31-10 Chiefs victory.
The five Sports Illustrated writers took the Chiefs: Conor Orr, Gary Grammling, John Pluym, Albert Breer and Mitch Goldich.
All 10 members of the Dallas Morning-News think the Chiefs will win: Tim Cowlishaw, Michael Gehlken, Craig Miller, Newy Scruggs, Jean-Jacques Taylor, Calvin Watkins, Dana Larson, Damon Marx, David Moore and Kevin Sherrington.
