Kansas City’s confidence in being selected as one of the U.S. cities to host FIFA World Cup games in 2026 appears to be growing.

The Twitter account for the Power & Light District reported that FS1, which will televise the announcement via a program that begins at 4 p.m. Thursday, said the network will be represented in Kansas City today.

“FS1 just called...they are joining us tomorrow too,” the KCPLDistrict account tweeted.

Is FS1 simply covering its bases and setting up shop at the sites of all 15 U.S. finalists? Hard to say.

Also, there’s this: Last week, Kansas City announced its plans for the watch party at the P&L. Other cities known to have announced watch parties are New York (to be held in Jersey City, N.J.), Philadelphia and Dallas. Those cites are considered favorites to land games.

Kansas City has been seen as more of a toss-up candidate. But there will be a party on Thursday, no matter the decision. KC2026 World Cup bid director Katherine Holland said the city deserves to celebrate the effort.

KC initiated discussions about making a bid for 2026 in 2015 — three years before the U.S, Mexico and Canada were jointly awarded the event.
