The Federal International Football Association announced Thursday sixteen North American cities, eleven in the U.S., will host 2026 World Cup matches.
Sixteen U.S. cities were in the running to host games.
The 48-team World Cup will play 80 matches in the tournament, a change from the 64-match format. Sixty of the matches are set to be played in the U.S., including every quarterfinal match.
Mexico will host 10 matches in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. Ten more will be played in Canada in Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton.
The last time the U.S. hosted the World Cup was in 1994.
