Spring is—dare we say—here in Kansas City, and we’re looking for ways to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family. The Star recently asked readers to recommend their favorite outdoor patio locations around town, and you responded with dozens of great suggestions.

Here are some of your favorites, plus a ton of honorable mentions to check out all over the city.

OurHouse KC

This charming spot received the most shoutouts from readers touting its great atmosphere. While the unassuming Volker location on 39th Street combines a bar, restaurant, coffee shop and bakery all into one, the real action happens on its rooftop patio. Those in the know flock here to enjoy sunshine, live music and craft cocktails.

“It’s the vibe!” raved reader Cindy Cobb. “Best food and drinks in KC along with great music and the staff at this family owned establishment are wonderful people!” Other readers agreed, recommending the spot for its great views, smoked meats and friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

OurHouse KC is located at 1815 W 39th St. 816-442-8569

Percheron at Crossroads Hotel

Located on the rooftop of Crossroads Hotel, this chic spot comes highly recommended from our readers. While it isn’t open quite yet, its spring 2022 season is scheduled to begin on April 15. The bar’s beer garden atmosphere is laid-back and friendly, while skyline views elevate the experience.

“The vibe, drinks and service are always amazing,” said reader Shel Buhler. Other readers highlighted the frozen drinks and upscale bar food, and recommended checking the spot out with a group of friends.

This lighthearted venue features a mix of indoor and outdoor dining spots and pickleball courts: a tennis-like game suitable for all ages. Our readers love its family-friendly vibes and the wide variety of outdoor activities, from bean bag tossing to giant Jenga.

“There is so much going on around it and you can see downtown from the rooftop,” said reader Renee Ernst. The regional chain has a location in North Kansas City and another in Overland Park– we heard from readers who recommended both spots.
