Many of the NCAA Tournament bracket projections on Sunday morning had the Kansas men’s basketball team as the likely choice for the top overall seed.

But when the bracket was revealed Sunday afternoon, the Jayhawks were the third overall seed. KU is No. 1 in the West Region but behind Alabama (first overall) and Houston in overall seeding.

There was speculation that coach Bill Self’s absence might affect KU’s seeding, but NCAA Selection Committee Chairman Chris Reynolds didn’t mention that during an interview on CBS.

It’s worth noting that CBS Sports’ Seth Davis got the interview off to a bad start by saying the T-Mobile Center (where the Midwest Region championship will be held) was in the state of Kansas.

Davis, though, said he thought KU should have been seeded higher than Houston before Reynolds gave his reasoning for the putting KU at No. 3 overall.

“Well, will you look at Houston combined 15-2 in the quad 1 and 2, compared to Kansas 21-7 in the Quad 1 and 2, and Houston they were competitive in all their games that they lost except for today and we understand today they were without there best player and so for that reason, we kept Houston at No. 2,” Reynolds said.

That explanation didn’t sit well with KU fans, who wondered why Quad 1 and Quad 2 victories were lumped together. And there was no mention of the Jayhawks being without senior guard Kevin McCullar in the Big 12 Tournament championship game loss to Texas.

Here is a look at what Kansas fans were saying on Twitter.
