Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans: Live commentary, stats & NFL score updates
This year’s AFC playoff race — in several ways — has a unique feel to it.
For starters, NFL history could be made this weekend. If the right combination of results go down, the AFC playoff field (the teams, not their seeds) could be locked in with two weeks to play. That’s never happened before.
And what about the Chiefs? They’re still playing (and leading the race) for the AFC’s No. 1 seed, but a late-game injury to Patrick Mahomes last week has led to some questions about the right way to approach their final regular-season games.
Nevertheless, today’s Chiefs-Texans game, which sees two of the NFL’s big-name quarterbacks face off (even if both are having down seasons), has plenty of implications for both teams.
Here’s what you need to know.
Today’s game will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock. In Kansas City, it will be televised by KSHB (Channel 41), and in Wichita on KSN (Channel 3). You can listen on radio via KFNZ (96.5 FM) and WDAF (106.5 FM) in the KC area, and KNSS (98.7 FM) around Wichita.

Three storylines for Chiefs-Texans
So about the Chiefs’ injury report...
Some big names are on it, but they appear likely to play. Andy Reid’s latest update inspired some confidence that both Patrick Mahomes and Hollywood Brown will be available.
In the case of Mahomes, is that smart? That’s an entirely different question, which columnist Vahe Gregorian pondered this week.
KC goes Hollywood (Brown)
Let’s assume, for a moment, that Hollywood Brown plays. That’s certainly a great sign for the Chiefs, particularly the chance to ease him in before the playoffs begin in a few weeks. But how ready will he be?
The receiver room has been playing catch-up all season, but this is a chance for KC to add some real firepower. If you don’t know about Brown, he’s certainly a unique talent.
This one matters for the No. 1 seed
The Chiefs have a (much) more difficult schedule than the Bills down the stretch, so they can’t count on much help the rest of the way. Most likely, they’ll have to go at least 2-1 to secure the No. 1 seed.
Our Pete Grathoff ran down the playoff scenarios this week. The field could be set by the end of the weekend, but the seeds are still plenty up in the air.
