Follow stats, scores & live commentary from Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers
The Kansas City Chiefs are tough to figure out these days. Or maybe they aren’t.
Many of this year’s games have followed the same script: The Chiefs play down to an inferior opponent and appear on the brink of losing, only to turn it on for a game-winning drive — or capitalize on a stunning error that only the worst teams tend to make.
While fans and analysts wait for the Chiefs to assert themselves as one of the NFL’s best, the Chiefs simply keep on, well, winning. And one can imagine they’ll be under the microscope during today’s “Sunday Night Football” game against a good team — a likely playoff team — at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Today’s Chiefs-Chargers game is on NBC (KSHB 41 in KC, KSNW 3 in Wichita). It will be broadcast on radio via KFNZ (96.5 FM) and WDAF (106.5 FM) in the KC area, and KNSS (98.7 FM) in Wichita. Kickoff time is 7:20 p.m. Central, with a streaming option on Peacock.

Three storylines for Chiefs-Chargers on SNF
Lucky, good or a little bit of both?
That was the question Star columnist Sam McDowell pondered this week. Hop on social media or tune into your favorite NFL show or podcast, and you’ll hear plenty of folks ready to question the Chiefs’ credentials, even at 11-1.
The best thing the Chiefs have going for them: They’ve beaten several teams in playoff position, like the Chargers, Ravens and Broncos in the AFC and Falcons in the NFC.
But what goes into some of those late wins and way-too-close calls? Here’s the answer.
A new starting left tackle?
This storyline has made the cut for what feels like a dozen weeks in a row, but it’s especially valid after last week’s debacle at the left-tackle spot. Not to mention the Chiefs have already tried three different players at left tackle, and it could soon be four.
Coach Andy Reid did not definitively name DJ Humphries the starter this week, but he figures to get the chance. The Chiefs, regardless, need a change, with Mahomes taking 10 sacks over the last two games.
And what about the secondary?
Even as the AFC’s No. 1 seed, the Chiefs have questions on both sides of the ball. They aren’t getting enough pressure with their pass rush, and as a result, issues in the secondary have become more glaring.
Against a talented Chargers quarterback in Justin Herbert, that could be an issue.
Quite frankly: This isn’t the Chiefs defense of last year. And KC is running out of time to find a fix. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo spoke to those issues this week.
More KC Chiefs coverage:
- You may have seen that former Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is no longer with UCLA. Star beat writer Jesse Newell has the details — and asked Andy Reid if the Chiefs have considered a reunion.
- Speaking of the Chiefs coach, Reid’s career changed on a promise and phone call from another longtime NFL coach. Star columnist Vahe Gregorian tells the story.
- The Chiefs are winning, but they’ve been far from decisive most weeks. So what do national NFL experts think of their chances today?
