The polls are open in Missouri for Election Day, as millions of state residents cast their votes for the governor and U.S. senator, and plus the future of abortion and minimum wage. That is on top of the presidential election for Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.

If you waited until Election Day to vote, you will need to bring a form of identification with you to your polling location.

Missouri voters should check with the state’s voter information search tool at voteroutreach.sos.mo.gov to find their polling location. You can also check directly with your local election board.

Missouri polling places are open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., including those in Kansas City and Clay, Jackson and Platte counties. As in all elections, if you’re in line when the polls close in the evening, you still have a right to vote, so stay in line until you’re able to cast a ballot.

Here’s what you can bring to the polls.

What ID do I need in Missouri?

2024 is the first presidential election since Missouri changed its ID requirements in 2022, so make sure you take note if it’s been a while since you voted.

Registered Missouri voters will need a current or recently expired photo ID issued by the federal or Missouri governments. IDs from other states are not accepted. Usable forms of photo ID for Missouri include:

  • A Missouri driver’s license or a state ID that is current or expired after Nov. 8, 2022
  • A non-expired military ID, including a veteran ID card that is current or expired after Nov. 8, 2022
  • A U.S. passport or another form of photo ID issued by the U.S. government or the state of Missouri that is current or expired after Nov. 8, 2022

If you don’t have one of these forms of identification but registered to vote in Missouri in time, you can cast a provisional ballot. Your provisional ballot will count if the signature on your provisional ballot envelope is determined by your local election authority to match the signature on your voter registration record or you return to your polling place on Election Day with a photo ID.

What can you bring in a Missouri voting booth?

Heather Hall, the director for the Clay County Election Board, said voters have multiple options for ways to remember which bubbles they’ll fill in.

She said that under Missouri law, a sample ballot and notes on paper or a phone are all allowed at polling places.

Campaign materials, like a mailer telling you what to vote for, are not allowed in polling places. The same is true for any clothing related to any candidate or issue on the ballot.
