One of five people shot outside a Kansas City apartment last week died on Wednesday, officials said.

Police were called just before 9 p.m. on Sept. 3 to the intersection of East 34th Street and Harrison Street. While enroute, the call was upgraded to a shooting, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Officers found multiple victims lying on a sidewalk. In total, four men and one woman were injured in gunfire, and one of the men sustained life-threatening injuries, police said. Assault squad detectives and crime scene personnel began an aggravated assault investigation at the time.

The victim’s death on Wednesday means the incident is now being investigated as a homicide, and homicide detectives have taken over the investigation, according to Becchina. The four others injured in the incident do not appear to have life threatening injuries.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

This marks the 114th death in Kansas City this year, compared to 112 this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes police shootings.

Anyone with information is asked to contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043, or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously through the TIPS line.
