Shortly after it was announced that Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes would be opening a restaurant in Kansas City, we learned of one planned dish for the steakhouse.

It was a cheeseburger in honor of Chiefs coach Andy Reid.

Not much has been said about that since Mahomes mentioned the burger in March 2024 at the 101 Awards. But during his weekly interview with Carrington Harrison on 96.5 The Fan, Mahomes was asked Wednesday about his top dish at 1587 Prime Steakhouse, which will open next week.

“I think my favorite thing so far has been the Big Red,” Mahomes said. “It’s a smash burger that coach Reid had his input on. And so, you know, a smash burger by coach Reid, it’s hard to miss.”

It will be interesting to hear more about what input Reid had on the burger.

The 1587 Prime menu includes cocktails named for the Chiefs’ 2-3 Jet Chip Wasp play from Super Bowl LIV and ones made in honor of Mahomes, Kelce and their significant others.

“The Alchemy” is named for a Taylor Swift song, and video of the drink being served went viral this week.

Mahomes was asked about it and said it was important to pay tribute to Swift, who is engaged to Kelce.

“I’m not a big liquor drinker myself, but from everything I’ve heard, it’s a really good drink,” Mahomes said on 96.5. “And obviously really wanted to have an ode to Taylor, and how important she is to not only us, but to this city as well. So I think people will be super excited to get it. It has the theatrics and stuff like that, which I think people will love, but it’s also a really good drink as well. And so something that I’m sure will be ordered a ton and will be a bestseller at 1587.”

Mahomes’ 30th birthday is next week and coincides with the opening of 1587 Prime. He’s excited for the restaurant and hopes fans will love it.

“It’s been really cool, man, just to have something in Kansas City that you can call your own, and try to do something to give back to the community in any way,” Mahomes said. “And we’re super excited about the steakhouse and the restaurant and the hope is that it’ll be here long term, and a lot of people get to enjoy it.”
