Shots fired from slow-moving car strike, kill man in Kansas City
A man is dead after an overnight shooting in the Northeast area of Kansas City, a police spokeswoman said.
Officers responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. Monday to a reported shooting near Independence and Lawndale avenues in the South Indian Mound neighborhood, Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department said.
Arriving officers found an unresponsive man lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical crews responded to the scene and declared the victim dead, Gonzalez said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle might have been driving through the area and someone inside began firing shots, striking the victim, Gonzalez said.
No one was in custody, and police did not have descriptions of the vehicle or the assailant.
Homicide and crime scene personnel were gathering evidence and speaking with possible witnesses.
