The woman and man killed in a double homicide that police are calling a “complex” case in a Kansas City suburb were married, a police spokesman said Friday.

The victims were identified as 37-year-old Nancy C. Ricker and 39-year-old Jesse L. Ricker, who lived in a duplex in the 100 block of Northeast Churchill Street in Lee’s Summit, said Sgt. Chris Depue, a spokesman for the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

Police have a person in custody that they are calling a “person of interest,” but Depue said he had no new information to share regarding that person.

Police responded to the couple’s home Wednesday morning after a call for a welfare check of the residents, Depue said.

Once securing a warrant to enter, officers found the husband and wife dead inside, Depue said. Police got a second warrant later in the day and began an investigation into their deaths.

Initially, police were calling the case a death investigation. But after detectives were at the home overnight Wednesday gathering evidence, they changed the investigation into a double homicide investigation, Depue said.

Depue said on Tuesday that the scene and case are “both complex and will require a lot of work.”

Meanwhile, little information has been released about the person police have taken into custody.

The deaths are Lee’s Summit’s first and second homicides of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. Last year, Lee’s Summit had one homicide.
