Kansas City man allegedly bound, raped woman in Grandview home: Prosecutors

A 31-year-old man is accused of binding a woman with zip ties, threatening her with a handgun and raping her in inside her Grandview home earlier this week, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Deonte T. Watson, of Kansas City, was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy in Jackson County Circuit Court, the prosecutor’s office announced. He was being held in the Jackson County jail as of Wednesday night.

According to charging documents, Grandview police officers were called to investigate a reported rape Monday afternoon. The alleged victim was crying and appeared scared when officers first contacted her, court documents say.

She told investigators she had known Watson as a close friend. She told police he had left the home in a pickup truck and possibly was driving to a Kansas City address.

On the day Watson visited, the alleged victim told police, he had come over to pick up an air-conditioning unit she had borrowed. They were discussing her relationship with a new boyfriend while on the sofa, she said, before Watson picked her up and forced her down.

She says she was then bound with zip ties as she fought and told him to stop. He allegedly commented on how strong she was as he overpowered her, according to court documents.

As she was being raped, she said, Watson allegedly instructed her to apologize for “not choosing” to be with him willingly beforehand. He also allegedly told her he was in love with her and had been “waiting for this for a long time,” according to court documents.

After the rape, the alleged victim told police, she was untied and brought upstairs and instructed to shower. She said she complied with Watson’s commands, and he left through the garage door shortly after.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where a rape kit was done.

Court documents make no mention of whether detectives attempted to interview Watson. He did not have a lawyer representing him in the case as of Wednesday who could speak on his behalf.
