Two suspicious deaths discovered on Labor Day were homicides, KC police say

Two suspicious deaths discovered on Labor Day in Kansas City are being investigated as separate homicides, police said Tuesday in a release.

One of the victims was stabbed while the other victim was shot multiple times, said Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman for Kansas City police.

In the first suspicious death, police responded to a medical call just before 4:45 p.m. Monday in the 2100 bock of Northeast Parvin Road in Kansas City, North, she said.

Officers found an adult male victim inside the home. His death was initially investigated as being suspicious. Detectives later learned that the victim had been stabbed, El-Ashkar said.

In the second suspicious death, officers responded to check the welfare of a person around 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Park Gate Apartments in the 3700 block of East Meyer Boulevard.

Arriving officers found an adult female victim inside an apartment. Her death also was initially investigated as being suspicious. It was later determined that she had been shot multiple times, El-Ashkar said.

No suspect information was released in either homicide. No one was in custody.

The killings are Kansas City’s 140th and 141st homicides of the year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police killings. That compares to 105 homicides by this time in 2019.

Across the entire Kansas City metro area, there have been 202 homicides so far this year.

Anyone with information about either of the killings is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
