A physical confrontation turned deadly overnight Sunday in Kansas City’s Northland, police said.
Officers were called to a disturbance just after 12:30 a.m. in the 10500 block of North Walnut Street, Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman Officer Doaa El-Ashkar said in an email.
A witness told police at the scene that two people got into a fight. A man involved was taken to the hospital where he later died, El-Ashkar said.
Police later identified the victim as 38-year-old Kyle Lager.
Police said the the victim and the other person involved in the altercation knew each other, but their relationship isn’t yet clear. Police said the victim was stabbed.
One man has been taken into custody, El-Ashkar said. Police are not searching for additional suspects.
The killing was the 113th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star that includes fatal police shootings. There had been 80 homicides in Kansas City by this time last year.
Another man was declared dead about an hour later in Kansas City. The second overnight homicide victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds just after 1:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of Indiana Avenue, El-Ashkar said.
An award up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in any homicide investigation, police said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
