Kansas City man charged with second degree murder in convenience store shooting
Prosecutors have charged a 44-year-old Kansas City man in the March fatal shooting of a man outside of a convenience store near East Ninth Street and Prospect Avenue.
Joel A. Roseberry was charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Kansas City police responded to the Xpress Mart convenience store just before 4:30 p.m. on March 1 at the intersection on a reported shooting where they found the victim, Frederick Outley, lying in the parking lot.
Outley died later at a hospital of gunshot wounds.
According to the prosecutor’s office, video from the store shows the victim arriving at the store and becoming involved in an altercation. The video later allegedly showed Roseberry bring out a handgun and shoot Outley repeatedly as Outley tried to run away. Roseberry then allegedly walked toward Outley and fired additional shots.
Outley was unarmed, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors asked for a bond of $200,000.
