Police identify Northland couple found dead after standoff in apparent murder-suicide

A 45-year-old man allegedly killed his wife Monday before shooting himself in an apparent murder-suicide in the Northland, Kansas City police said Tuesday.

The couple was identified as Damone Williams and 48-year-old Jamie Williams, said Kansas City Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina in an email.

Police were initially called to the home in the 9400 block of N.E. 91st Street around 10 a.m. Monday because of a report of a disturbance between a man and a woman followed by the sound of gunshots in the home.

Officers initiated a standoff and eventually entered the home around 2:30 p.m. and found the man and woman dead from gunshot wounds.

Police said Tuesday that some of the disturbance occurred outside the house but the majority was inside the home.

The killing was the 91st homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 65 homicides in Kansas City by this time last year.

Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America and sponsored in part by Missouri Foundation for Health. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
