One dead, another hospitalized in shooting Tuesday morning in Kansas City
One man was killed and another was injured in a shooting early Tuesday morning in Kansas City.
Police were called to a shooting about 2:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of East 83rd Street after multiple people called 911 when they heard a series of gunshots and saw a victim in front of a house near the intersection, Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman, said in an email.
Officers arriving found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was unresponsive and declared dead at the scene.
A second shooting victim arrived at the hospital a short time later after he was driven there in a private vehicle, Becchina said. The man’s condition was stabilized.
No suspect information is available. The investigation is ongoing.
Tuesday’s killing was the 92nd homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star that includes fatal police shootings. There had been 65 homicides in Kansas City by this time last year.
An award up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in any homicide investigation, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America and sponsored in part by Missouri Foundation for Health. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
