Victim in Wednesday shooting in KCK dies; murder, kidnapping charges filed

An Overland Park man died from his injuries Thursday after he was critically injured in a Kansas City, Kansas, shooting Wednesday that led to a search for a suspect and abducted woman, police said.

In a news release issued Friday afternoon, Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Chartrand said police are now investigating the shooting as a homicide after 42-year-old Sharnia Robinson died at the hospital.

Robinson was critically injured around 6:20 p.m. in a shooting in the Regency Inn parking lot in the 4700 block of State Avenue, police said.

The suspect in the shooting, 38-year-old Matthew Walker, was charged Friday afternoon in Wyandotte County District Court with second-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery and aggravated intimidation of a victim or witness. He is being held in the county jail on $250,000 bond.

Investigators arrested a Walker on Thursday after police said he forced a woman at gunpoint to drive him away from the scene.

The woman, Candi Hunter, was found late Wednesday night.

The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477.

The shooting is the 17th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, this year according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
