1 critically injured in Kansas City, Kansas, shooting. Police seek person of interest

Kansas City, Kansas, police were investigating a shooting Wednesday night that left one person critically injured.

Officers responded to the 4700 block of State Avenue for a report of a shooting about 6:20 p.m.

In the parking lot of a motel, police found a man who had been shot.

Earlier, police said the victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. In an updated statement Wednesday night, they said he was in critical condition.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a person of interest who was seen leaving the area in a 1993 teal or turquoise and silver Chevrolet Suburban with a Kansas tag. The vehicle was described as having plastic covering the rear passenger and side window.

The police department said information it received Wednesday night led officers to believe that a female driver of the vehicle was forced at gunpoint to drive out of the area.

Police said the person of interest they are seeking in connection to the shooting investigation is Matthew R. Walker, 38. Walker was described by police as a black male, about 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 260 pounds, with black hair with a gray stripe.

The investigation was ongoing by the police department’s criminal investigations bureau.
