Suspect in Kansas City woman’s 2018 shooting death is seen on surveillance video
Kansas City police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a 2018 homicide who was captured on video footage released Tuesday.
Kansas City police released video showing a man who “hung around” Legacy Apartment Complex near Troost Avenue for several hours leading up to the shooting death of a 26-year-old woman.
The man in the video is wearing dark shorts and a white T-shirt. He later removes the shirt and wraps it around his head.
Shanterria Edwards was shot in the back about 2:20 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2018, in the 1300 block of East 89th Street in south Kansas City as a man chased her to her car, witnesses told police at the time.
Edwards called 911 from her car after she was shot, officials said. She was declared dead at the scene, becoming Kansas City’s 73rd homicide victim in 2018.
Prior to her death, Edwards, a leader with Stand Up KC, traveled Missouri fighting for workers’ rights and campaigning for a $15 minimum wage.
Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
