Kansas City police investigate pedestrian hit and run death as a homicide

Kansas City police said they were investigating a homicide after a man was intentionally run down with a vehicle and killed Monday in Blue Valley Park.

Just before 3:30 p.m., officers responded to what was reported as a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian, said Sgt. Bill Mahoney.

“Investigation has led us to conclude that this was a homicide,” he said.

The driver left the scene and drove a short distance before abandoning the vehicle in the 2300 block of Topping Avenue. The driver remained at large.

Crash and homicide investigators are working on identifying the driver, Mahoney said.

Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Felipe Carillo.

The crime scene stretched through parts of the park and across 23rd Street.
