Police investigate homicide after victim shot multiple times in Northeast Kansas City
Police were investigating the city’s latest homicide after a male victim was found behind a house in a neighborhood in Kansas City’s Northeast area, Kansas City police said.
Police responded to numerous calls reporting the sound of gunfire about 12:20 a.m. in the 400 block of Denver Avenue, police said. On the way to the scene, officers were notified that a male shooting victim was behind a house in the neighborhood.
Officers found the victim suffering from life-threatening injuries after being shot multiple times, police said. Emergency medical workers rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
The victim was later identified as 16-year-old Miguel Padilla.
Detectives and crime scene investigators were collecting evidence and canvassing the area looking for witnesses to the shooting.
The fatal shooting is the city’s 15th homicide so far this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. By this time in 2019, there had been nine homicides in Kansas City. Last year’s homicide total neared an all-time record for the city.

A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this homicide.
