Photos show aftermath of crash involving deputy and suspected impaired driver in KC

Cars driven by a sheriff’s deputy and a suspected impaired driver crashed into each other early Sunday, sending both drivers to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forté.

The crash occurred about 3 a.m. at Southwest Boulevard and Broadway in Kansas City, Forté said on Twitter. The deputy was treated at the hospital and released. The other driver remained hospitalized early Sunday, he said.

In the tweet, Forté included photos of the wreckage, which showed a mangled Jackson County patrol car with significant front-end damage. The sedan driven by the suspected impaired driver had significant damage to the front driver’s side.

Forté didn’t indicate whether driver was suspected of being impaired by alcohol or drugs. Charges are pending against the driver, he said.
