Woman and two children found dead in KCK fire were victims of homicide, police say
A woman and two children found dead inside a burning Kansas City, Kansas, house early Monday were victims of homicide, police said.
The bodies were found after firefighters responded to the blaze about 4:35 a.m. at a home near North Mill Street and Ridge Avenue, which is just north of Central Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.
Arriving firefighters reported that smoke was coming from the attic and there flames on the second floor of the house.
While searching the home, fire crews found the bodies of the three victims, according to a news release from the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department.
The names and ages of the victims were not immediately released while police worked to identify them positively and notified family, police said in a written statement Monday afternoon. Police did not specify a cause of death for the victims.
Kansas City, Kansas, police responded to the fire about 5 a.m. to assist the fire department in investigating the blaze. Police said the preliminary investigation has revealed that the victims of the fire were victims of a homicide.
The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit continues to investigate.

The victims’ deaths are the city’s 35, 36 and 37th homicides of the year in Kansas City, Kansas, according to data kept by The Star. The city had 35 homicides in 2018, according to Kansas City, Kansas, police.
