Kansas City police say death of woman whose body was found last week was a homicide

Kansas City police said Friday that they were investigating the death of a woman whose body was found last week as a homicide.

Renita D. Thompson, 28, had been reported missing Dec. 16.

Her body was discovered Dec. 21 by family members who were searching an area near Gregory Boulevard and Ewing Avenue.

Thompson had two children, one 7 years and the other 3 months, said Ariana Saunders, who had been friends with Thompson since they were teenagers.

“It’s sad because a baby has to grow up without knowing who his mother is,” Saunders said.

She described Thompson as outgoing, loving and spiritual.

Saunders and other friends spent Friday delivering dinners to raise money for the family.

“We just want answers, of why,” she said.

Kansas City has recorded 150 homicides this year, according to data maintained by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.

Anyone with information may call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
