51-year-old woman found dead after shooting Friday; 1 person arrested, KC police say

Kansas City police have identified a 51-year-old woman as the victim of a fatal shooting and say one person has been arrested and charged in connection to killing.
Lisa Powell was found dead late Friday night after police received a report of gunfire heard in the 7200 block of North Jefferson Court.
Police were called to investigate just before 11 p.m. Arriving officers found Powell outside on the ground, and EMS declared her dead at the scene, police said.
Police earlier said that a person of interest was taken into custody.
Later, in a brief statement Saturday evening, Kansas City police announced that a man identified as Joshua Thompson, 20, was arrested and charged in Clay County Circuit Court with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
No further details, including information on what led up to the killing, have been released. The investigation was ongoing, police said Saturday evening.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-8477. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for any tips leading to an arrest.
The killing was being investigated as Kansas City’s 151st homicide this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. By this time last year, the city recorded 143 homicides in a year that ended with 145.
