Family of KC man shot over shoes in Grandview gets help with funeral expenses

A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family of a 20-year-old man who was killed earlier this week during a transaction for shoes in Grandview.

Police found Jaylen T. Blackmon, of Kansas City, fatally shot Sunday night on a sidewalk in the 13200 block of Overhill Road.

“Jaylen Blackmon, a beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, boyfriend, friend and so much more was suddenly taken from this world,” the GoFundMe page said.

According to a statement from the family, Blackmon loved cars, basketball and music.

“He was a complete goofball and would light up a room,” the statement said. “This senseless murder is a huge and devastating loss to our family and so many more.”

Nearly $6,000 for funeral expenses was raised as of Thursday morning.

Witnesses told police there appeared to have been an altercation over a transaction for shoes between Blackmon and another person.

Police said Thursday that no arrests have been made and the investigation remains active.

Grandview has recorded four homicides this year.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
