Kansas City’s 50th homicide of 2025 comes at close of violent weekend
Update: The deceased has been identified as Joshua P. Teel, 46.
Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Kansas City’s Eastwood Hills East neighborhood Sunday evening, according to a Kansas City police spokesperson.
The death was the third reported homicide in the city Sunday, and the fifth homicide recorded over the weekend.
Officers were called around 5:45 p.m. to the 8500 block of Sni-A-Bar Road on a shooting call, and when they arrived, they found an unresponsive man who had been shot, said Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department. The man was declared dead at the scene.
Becchina said police believe the victim was outside a residence when he had an interaction with an unknown suspect that led to gunfire. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction, he said.
