An Independence man has been charged in relation to a killing in Iowa this week, according to court records and police.

Abraham M. Guhnics, 19, is charged in Story County, Iowa, with first-degree murder for his alleged role in the death of Parker Stoneburner, 25.

Stoneburner was shot in an apartment on South Fifth Street in Ames, Iowa, on Jan. 18. Ames police responded to the shooting around 6:30 p.m. and found Stoneburner with a gunshot wound. He died of his injuries at a hospital that evening, according to police and an obituary shared online.

U.S. Marshals arrested Guhnics and 21-year-old Zoe Anderson, of Boone, Iowa, in Independence on Monday, according to the Ames Police Department.

Destiny Skurdal, 19, of Ames, was arrested Jan. 24 in connection with the case. She was charged in Story County court with first-degree robbery.

Stoneburner lived in Boone, Iowa, and worked as an HVAC installer, according to social media and the obituary shared online. He had a passion for cars but nurtured several other hobbies, including fishing and playing sports, and had recently moved into a home that he was remodeling with his parents, according to the obituary.

“Parker was well-known for being a good friend to everyone he met; never losing the kind soul he’s always had,” the obituary reads. “… He turned the ‘kids table’ to the ‘kool kids table.’”

Stoneburner is survived by his beloved dog Dexter and his large extended family, including seven siblings. He is preceded in death by his brother Blayne, according to the obituary.

A GoFundMe fundraiser benefiting Stoneburner’s family had raised about $2,600 by Wednesday.

Guhnics was voluntarily extradited from Iowa to Jackson County on Tuesday. He is being held without bond in the Jackson County Detention Center.

His first appearance in Jackson County court has not yet been scheduled.
