A man who was driven to a hospital after being shot multiple times in Kansas City’s Northeast area has died from his injuries, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers responded about 2 a.m. to the 3700 block of St. John Avenue in the Scarritt Point neighborhood to investigate a report of a shooting, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

Arriving officers were unable to find a shooting victim at the scene. After speaking with bystanders in the area, the officers were notified that a shooting victim had been driven to a hospital, Gonzalez said. The victim had been shot multiple times.

After further investigation, officers discovered that the shooting occurred nearby at Sunrise Drive and Cliff Drive Place.

Shortly after 6 a.m., the hospital staff notified detectives that the victim had died from his injuries. The man has not been formally identified.

Detectives were trying to determine what led up to the shooting, Gonzalez said. A suspect has not been identified, and no one is in custody. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation of the deadly shooting.
