Mizzou lands commitments from Alabama linebacker, Georgia center

Missouri’s new football coaching staff is gaining big-time momentum on the recruiting trail after the “Night at the Zou” prospect camp.

As of Tuesday, the Tigers have landed four commitments in the 2017 class (and five overall) in the last four days after Bessemer (Ala.) City High linebacker Jamal Brooks announced his verbal pledge on Twitter and Carrollton (Ga.) center Case Cook quickly followed with his own commitment.

Brooks — who participated in last weekend’s camp that took place under the lights on Memorial Stadium’s Faurot Field — and Cook are consensus three-star recruits.

Mizzou now has a total of nine known commitments for next season with Brooks being the first and Cook being the fourth at offensive line.

Brooks is a 6-foot-1, 227-pound inside linebacker, who also played tight end for Bessemer City.

He also had offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and a slew of Group of Five conference powers, according to Rivals.

Brooks is listed as the No. 24 inside linebacker by 247 Sports and checks in No. 35 at his position, according to Scout.

Cook, whose brother Cole is a junior tight end at North Carolina State, stands 6-5 and weighs 290 pounds.

He’s one of the top offensive line prospects in Georgia and also had offers from Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina State, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and numerous other Football Bowl Subdivision programs.

Cook is the No. 4 center in the nation, according to Rivals, while 247 Sports lists him as the No. 29 prospect overall in Georgia, No. 38 tackle in the nation and No. 311 overall prospect in the country.

ESPN lists Cook as the No. 43 guard in the country.

Missouri also has commitments from three other offensive linemen — Hyrin White from De Soto (Texas) High, Pompey Coleman from Indianapolis and Larry Borom from Detroit.

The Tigers’ 2017 commitment list also includes Hogan Prep wide receiver DaRon Davis, Bishop Miege wide receiver Jafar Armstrong, Southwest High wide receiver Roderick Ford from Fort Worth, Texas, and Lemont (Ill.) tight end Logan Christopherson.

Blue Springs defensive end Daniel Parker Jr. also committed this week, but he’s in the 2018 recruiting class.
