Bishop Miege receiver Jafar Armstrong commits to Mizzou
Calling Missouri “one of my favorite schools growing up,” Bishop Miege rising senior wide receiver Jafar Armstrong committed the Tigers on Tuesday, announcing his decision on Twitter.

“I’ve always been a fan of Missouri,” Armstrong said. “I’ve been to many games and I’ve been a diehard fan since I moved here.”
He was born in Los Angeles, but moved to Kansas City as a second-grader and now lives in Lee’s Summit.
Armstrong was at Missouri’s camp last week at Park Hill and received a scholarship offer Thursday from the Tigers’ staff.
Wide receivers coach Andy Hill, who is Mizzou’s primary recruiter in Kansas City, delivered the good news in an unforgettable phone call for Armstrong.
“I was stoked obviously,” Armstrong said. “That’s a huge offer — an SEC school and playing against teams like Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina. That’s a dream. You always see them on TV and now, having a chance to play against them, that’s good stuff. It’s also going to take a lot of hard work.”
His instinct was to accept Hill’s offer on the spot, but he took the weekend to mull the decision.
“Tuesday (at the Park Hill camp), I felt real comfortable with the coaches,” Armstrong said. “We vibed real well together and I thought it would be a great place to play. The offer solidified my decision. I wanted to commit on the spot, but I took a few days to think about it and talked it over with my parents. In the end, it was a no-brainer. Mizzou is home to me.”
Armstrong — a 6-foot-1, 185-pound speedster — said he can play slot if needed, but he considers himself a better prospect outside.
“I’m not as shifty as the usual slot guy,” he said. “I’m more of a deep threat.”
Armstrong is a Rivals three-star prospect, rated as the No. 86 wide receiver in the 2017 class, but he’s been steadily rising up the rankings after totaling more than 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.
He still has the option to take official visits until signing day in February, but that doesn’t interest Armstrong.
“I think I’m done,” he said. “Mizzou’s always been home to me. I’m pretty sure this is a hard commitment. I’m done with recruitment.”
Armstrong hopes to take the Southeastern Conference by storm alongside his friend, Hogan Prep rising senior DaRon Davis. He’s also a wide receiver in the 2017 class and committed to Mizzou in November.
“We’ve been buddies for a long time and he committed several months ago, but I always thought, ‘Boy, us together, that would be scary,’” Armstrong said.
He and Davis attended a few camps together and the duo relished the idea of helping Mizzou “get back on top,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong — a second-team All-Metro selection last fall for the two-time reigning Kansas Class 4A Division I state champions — also had offers from Kansas, Illinois, Western Michigan, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico and Northern Illinois.
Missouri was the only school that he camped with this summer to extend a scholarship offer.
“That was the deal-breaker right there,” said Armstrong, who also went to camps at Oklahoma State, Iowa and Kansas State.
Armstrong said he played well at the Wildcats’ camp and they were close to offering, “but Mizzou was the first to jump on and that meant a lot to me.”
Besides, his heart belongs east of the state line.
“I never lived in Kansas one day in my life,” said Armstrong, who goes to high school there. “I’ve always lived in Kansas City or Lee’s Summit and been a die-hard Mizzou fan since I moved here.”
