Victim shot leaving health club at Ward Parkway Center was 'targeted' Texas man

The man shot to death as he left the Genesis Health Club at Ward Parkway Shopping Center Wednesday night was identified as a 25-year-old Texas man.

Darrell Allen, whose city of residence was unknown, was shot about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday as he walked out of the club in the 8600 block of Ward Parkway.

Officers found him lying on the sidewalk, and he was pronounced dead soon thereafter, police said.

Witnesses told police that when Allen left the health club, a man in a white shirt shot him. The shooter then left in a dark-colored vehicle, police said.

Besides the victim's name, police said they had no further information to release Thursday morning.

The Ward Parkway Shopping Center posted a notice to its website: "We are shocked and saddened by the incident/shooting that occurred at the Ward Parkway Shopping Center on Wednesday evening resulting in a tragic death. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim. KCMO Police believe this was an act targeted at this particular individual. All stores and restaurants remain open."
