Two dead, six others shot in 48 hour span in Kansas City

Eight people were shot in a span of 48 hours in Kansas City, including a homicide Wednesday that claimed the life of a 28-year-old man, followed by another homicide announced Friday.

No charges have been announced in any of the shootings.

Antonio C. Hughes of Kansas City was found fatally shot Wednesday at 57th Street and Bales. Police found his body outside a residence about 7:30 p.m.

Hughes’ death was the city’s 45th homicide of 2017, according to an online database that track homicides.

Less than an hour later, two men were critically injured in a double shooting about 8:20 p.m. in the 3200 block of Smart Avenue.

The violence continued Thursday with three separate shootings that reportedly killed one and injured four other people.

A double shooting injured a man and a woman about 2 p.m. near 24th Street and Lawndale Avenue. A woman in her late 20s was shot in the leg, and a man in his late teens was shot in the shoulder.

Both were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. A disturbance among associates led to the shooting, police said.

Another double shooting was reported about 4:20 p.m. near 104th Street and Holmes Road in south Kansas City. A man was shot in the head during a road rage incident that also injured a woman riding with the victim.

Authorities announced the man’s death Friday. The woman was expected to survive.

The third shooting of the day was reported about 8:30 p.m. in the 4400 block of Flora Avenue. One person was shot in that incident. An update on the victim’s condition was not available Friday.
