Chiefs’ Travis Kelce played coy when asked about Taylor Swift song ‘Wood’
Taylor Swift fans made the release of the superstar singer’s new album a record-breaker.
Spotify said Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” was the most-streamed album in a single day this year. That was achieved in less than 11 hours, Spotify added. And “The Fate of Ophelia” had the most streams in a single day in Spotify history, Variety reported.
That wasn’t the only song to get attention.
Rapper Nicki Minaj’s favorite song on the record is the ribald “Wood.” Minaj tweeted multiple times about the song before finishing with this thought: “all I promise this is my last tweet about it but #Wood is exactly what falling in love with your soul mate ‘sounds like’.”
Like many Swifties, Minaj theorized the risqué song was about Swift’s fiancée, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
If anyone has a sibling, then it should come as no surprise that Kelce’s brother, Jason, asked him about the song, “Wood,” on the latest episode of their New Heights podcast, which came out Wednesday.
Travis Kelce played coy as Jason fumbled to find the right way to ask about the song’s meaning, which included a lyric about a redwood tree.
Jason asked: “How do you feel about ‘Wood’? Let’s ask this, how do you feel about ‘Wood’?”
“It’s a great song,” Travis Kelce said simply.
“Do you feel ... do you feel, I’m trying to think of the word. Do you feel, not confident. Do you feel cocky?” Jason asked.
“No,” Travis said. “Any song that she references me in ....”
“That’s not just any song,” Jason responded. “This is a very specific you.”
“I love that girl,” Travis said. “So what do you mean? Any song that she would reference me in any way ...”
Jason interjected: “It’s not just you, though. It’s an appendage. It’s you as a very specific thing.”
“What?” Travis replied. “I think you’re not understanding the song.”
Jason had enough and mentioned the redwood tree lyric. Their discussion then turned to ... Japanese maple trees.
“That song’s great, though,” Jason Kelce said. “The beat to that song is fantastic. And that’s right up my alley, so well done. I think it’s a great song.”
