Country music legend Garth Brooks once played nine sold-out shows at T-Mobile Center, and he also has had a concert at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

On Thursday night, Brooks was back in town and he performed at another KC venue: Union Station.

This wasn’t open to the public, however. Brooks was at a gala honoring the Royals’ 1985 and 2015 World Series championship teams.

Brooks played what was his first and perhaps biggest hit ever: “Friends in Low Places,” and the Purple Label Barbershop shared video on Instagram.

Brooks also sang “Happy Birthday” to Hall of Famer George Brett, who turned 72 on Thursday. Golf legend Tom Watson was also on hand for the festivities.

In addition to his big concerts in Kansas City, Brooks’ very first performance was at the Kansas City Opry, which later became home to the Englewood Theater in Independence.

Brooks announced the launch of a radio channel at Kauffman Stadium two years ago and once took part in Royals spring training as part of a fundraiser for his charity. While he might not be a Kansas City native, he’s quite fond of our town.

Here are more photos from people who were at the gala.
