Royals honoring 1985 & 2015 teams: Info for fans going to games or watching on TV
The Royals and their fans will party like it’s 1985 and 2015 in the coming days.
Ahead of the Royals’ games Friday and Saturday, members of the franchise’s two World Series championship teams will be honored at Kauffman Stadium.
Fans who have tickets for the games against the St. Louis Cardinals will want to arrive early both days.
Here is information on what the team has planned and what fans will want to know, whether they’re going to The K or watching on television.
Friday
The Royals-Cardinals game starts at 6:40 p.m., but the on-field ceremony will begin at 5:50 p.m. Gates at Kauffman Stadium will open at 4:30 p.m.
Twenty-one players from the 1985 team will be honored: Steve Balboni, Buddy Biancalana, George Brett, Steve Farr, Mark Gubicza, Mark Huismann, Danny Jackson, Lynn Jones, Mike Jones, Charlie Leibrandt, Dennis Leonard, Hal McRae, Darryl Motley, Jorge Orta, Greg Pryor, Jamie Quirk, Pat Sheridan, Jim Sundberg, John Wathan, Frank White and Willie Wilson.
Fans who purchase a theme ticket will receive a special George Brett and Bret Saberhagen bobblehead.
Saturday
The on-field celebration will begin at 5:10 p.m., one hour before first pitch of the I-70 Series game. Gates will open at Kauffman Stadium at 4 p.m.
The first 25,000 fans will receive a replica 2015 World Series championship ring.
Twenty-five players from that team will be honored: Drew Butera, Lorenzo Cain, Tim Collins, Christian Colón, Wade Davis, Alcides Escobar, Alex Gordon, Terrance Gore, Jeremy Guthrie, Kelvin Herrera, Luke Hochevar, Eric Hosmer, Omar Infante, Ryan Madson, Kris Medlen, Franklin Morales, Kendrys Morales, Mike Moustakas, Paulo Orlando, Salvador Perez, Alex Ríos, Jason Vargas, Edinson Vólquez, Chris Young and Ben Zobrist.
TV information
FanDuel Sports Network is planning special one-hour pregame shows on Friday and Saturday. Joel Golberg and Jeff Montgomery will “pay homage to the championship teams and preview the Royals vs. Cardinals I-70 series matchups before taking viewers to live coverage of the team’s pregame ceremonies,” FanDuel Sports said.
Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Jake Eisenberg will handle the play-by-play duties on television alongside analyst Rex Hudler. Players from the championship teams are expected to join the broadcast each night.
