Travis Kelce asked about Taylor Swift, proposal, refs & more at Super Bowl Opening Night

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce drew a crowd at Super Bowl media events even before he began dating superstar singer Taylor Swift.

As one of the greatest players in NFL history, Kelce was in hot demand among media members.

The Super Bowl Opening Night festivities are one part news conference and one part entertainment. Because Kelce is known not only for his football prowess, but also his high-profile romance with superstar singer Taylor Swift, he drew a massive crowd at the Caesars Superdome on Monday night.

Here are some of the things he had to say.

Will he propose to Taylor Swift postgame?

Kelce had fun with this question, when asked at Opening Night.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Kelce said.

He was also asked about Swift’s baking, and brought up her legendary pop-tarts.

“She’s quite the cook. I would say, man, I’m a breakfast guy, her pop-tarts are unbelievable, man,” Kelce said. “Homemade pop-tarts. Unbelievable.”

The Chiefs and the referees

On Monday, Kelce referenced the officiating conversation that has been brought up often throughout the last few weeks.

It was a topic NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was even asked about Monday. (Goodell called it a “ridiculous theory” to say the Chiefs benefit from favorable officiating.)

So ... when Kelce was asked for a question he’d have for the media, here was his answer: “Why are you guys leaning into this whole ref thing, you know what I mean? Why are you guys leaning into it?”

Later, Kelce was asked to elaborate.

“I don’t really care,” he said. “I’m just asking why we’re making a big deal about it. Everybody has to abide by the rules.”

What about Travis’ brother, Jason Kelce?

One person Travis Kelce will not face in this Super Bowl rematch against the Eagles is his brother (and podcast co-host) Jason Kelce.

“Of course I wish Jason was out there,” Kelce said. “Being at the mountaintop with your brother is something special that I’ll never forget. Obviously being so close to him retiring, I wish he would’ve played another year. But he’s very content where he is in life right now, and I’m happy as hell for him. He gets to be around his family and his baby girls a little bit more. I’ll go out there and try to represent the family as best I can.”

What does the future hold?

Kelce was asked indirectly about possibly retiring. The question: Where do you see yourself in three years?

“Oh man, I don’t know, hopefully still playing football. I love doing this. I love coming into work every day,” Kelce said. And I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me. But we’ll see. We’ll see what happens.

“I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life, and that’s always been the goal — knowing that football only lasts for so long, you gotta find a way to get into another career, to another profession. And I’ve been doing that in my offseasons. But for the most part, I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”

New Orleans food

Kelce was asked about the local cuisine and he admitted some of it is not his cup of gumbo, err, tea.

“I’m not a gumbo guy. What else is New Orleans?” Kelce said. “I’m just out on jambalaya and gumbo. I like seafood. I just don’t like it in the soup, a brown soup.”

But that’s not a knock on New Orleans.

“Just because I don’t like to crack open spicy crab legs doesn’t mean I don’t love the city,” he noted.

Next touchdown celebration

Kelce was asked if he has a touchdown dance prepared should he reach the end zone.

“I don’t have any anything planned right now, but we got all week,” Kelce said.

Someone suggested the Griddy.

“I don’t know if I’m a Griddy kind of guy,” he replied. “I might hit the Skedaddle like my guy (Mike) Gesicki.”
