‘Sweet young woman’: Taylor Swift makes even more homemade Pop-Tarts for the Chiefs
Maybe when she wraps up the Eras Tour next month, Taylor Swift ought to consider opening a chain of bakeries.
The pop superstar is an avid baker, something Kansas City Chiefs fans came to know after she made homemade Pop-Tarts for teammates of her boyfriend, tight end Travis Kelce, earlier this year.
Apparently she’s back in the kitchen even as she wraps up her record-breaking Eras Tour. She has three more concerts, Dec. 6-8, in Vancouver.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Chiefs defensive backs coach Dave Merritt, who is in his sixth season with the team, revealed that Swift “baked homemade victory Pop Tarts” for him after the Chiefs beat the Charlotte Panthers on Sunday.
Apparently he was feeling pretty special about that until his wife, Yolonda Merritt, told him, “she’s done it all season for different people, Dave,’” he tweeted. “I thought I was SPECIAL Sweet young woman regardless!”
Online, Swift’s fans wondered with awe where she finds the time to bake with such a busy schedule. One joked that she has become a “soccer mom” to the Chiefs.
“WHEN DOES THIS LADY SLEEP,” one Swiftie wrote on the Facebook fan page, Taylor Swift’s Vault.
“Ummm…so, this means after performing 3 consecutive shows this weekend she then got up Monday and BAKED DOZENS of pop tarts? M’am I haven’t even put my folded laundry away from Sunday,” wrote another.
Swift’s homemade Pop-Tarts have gotten a lot of press this year since coach Andy Reid revealed in February that she gave some of her DIY pastries to the Chiefs’ O-line.
Reid told NBC Sports at the NFL Combine that “she likes to cook, so she made the offensive linemen these homemade Pop-Tarts. She didn’t give me one and the offensive linemen definitely didn’t give me one.”
The revelation got the attention of Pop-Tarts, which begged Swift to release her recipe, even taking out a full-page ad in this very newspaper asking for it.
(She hasn’t shared it, as far as we know.)
Swift hinted that Pop-Tarts might be part of her baking repertoire a few years ago when she made a TikTok showing off things she “made.” Images of her albums and desserts flashed across the screen. Cinnamon rolls. Homemade doughnuts. Muffins bursting with fat berries.
And … homemade Pop-Tarts laid out on a cooling rack.
While Kelce doesn’t routinely share details of his romance, he did tell reporters over the summer that she “makes a great Pop-Tart and cinnamon roll.”
So no wonder Swift’s fans shrieked when his character on the FX series, “Grotesquerie,” referenced the pastries in this line: “You know what I like? Pop-Tarts without the frosting.”
Merritt’s Pop-Tarts, which arrived in a box that Swift signed with “love,” were frosted with sprinkles.
