For Pete's Sake

Patrick Mahomes reiterates his desire to have a throw-off with Bills’ Josh Allen

July is a time in the NFL when training camps open (we hope) and players complain about their ratings in the Madden video game.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is part of the game’s “99 Club,” which is the highest rating a player can receive.

But Mahomes’ throwing power rating trailed Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who had a 99. Mahomes was rated as a 97.

While on ESPN’s “Madden 21 Ratings Reveal Show” on Friday, Mahomes was asked about being second in the NFL in arm strength to Allen. Mahomes again suggested that the two players have a contest to see who can throw a football farther.

A year ago, Mahomes floated the idea after Allen said he was up for it.

“Obviously Josh has an extremely strong arm but I’ve yet to see someone have a stronger arm than me, so maybe we can line up,” Mahomes said Friday. “I know we talked about maybe having a throw-off, and then we can really prove who has the strongest arm.”

The ESPN host told Mahomes he would win.

“I mean I have ultimate belief in myself. He does have a strong arm, but if I put it out there like 80, 85 yards,” Mahomes said, “I mean, if he beats that, he just beats it.”

While Allen has thrown a football 80 yards, Mahomes has said he once threw a ball 85 yards.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play at Buffalo on October 15, so that seems like a perfect time for this to happen.
