The Kansas City Current’s spot in the NWSL Championship Game is an amazing accomplishment in the moment, and something that’s been building for two seasons.
They had to win both playoff games on the road to reach the final on Saturday in Washington D.C. against the Portland Thorns. Amazing, as this is just the second year of the Current franchise’s existence — the team came together in such a hurry that it was known as KC NWSL in year one (the 2021 season), before a permanent name was determined.
On today’s episode of The Star’s SportsBeat KC podcast, Current coach Matt Potter and star midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta share their thoughts on the team and this season.
Also, Star columnist Vahe Gregorian and soccer writer Daniel Sperry discuss what has made this organization such a success on and off the field.
Kickoff Saturday is 7 p.m., and the game will be televised by CBS (Ch. 5)
