Travis Kelce says Taylor Swift dropped Easter eggs in ‘New Heights’ appearance
Swiftie alert: Did Travis Kelce overshare on the “New Heights” podcast Wednesday?
It was the first show since he and brother, Jason Kelce, hosted Taylor Swift for a two-hour conversation on Aug. 13 that set a Guinness World Record for the most concurrent views — 1.3 million people — for a podcast on YouTube.
Travis wasn’t there at the beginning of Wednesday’s episode when Jason enthusiastically congratulated him and Swift on their engagement, which they announced Tuesday.
“Gigantic piece of New News that just hit the waves,” Jason said. “We did record this podcast on Monday, which was Travis’ one day off.
“So, he is not here to address this himself, but we felt necessary as a team here at ‘New Heights’ to get together and send Travis and Taylor a giant congratulations for being engaged! The proposal heard ‘round the world.”
As they rehashed the Swift episode, Jason asked his brother if he has a favorite song on his fiancee’s upcoming album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” Swift revealed the album cover and the Oct. 3 release date on the podcast.
“I’m going to go ahead and just like keep poking the bear to all the Swifties,” Travis teased. “I keep listening to this album and I know she mentioned that it’s going to be a lot more pop beats and everything, but it’s still so poetic ... her melodies and references and stuff. It’s just so much fun to listen to, man. I’ve been dancing all throughout the house.”
Jason asked if he has a favorite song on the album. “I think ‘Opalite’ might be my favorite, though. At least right now, every time it comes on I always catch myself,” Travis said with a shimmy of his shoulders.
Swifties searching for clues to the album think that song might have special meaning for Travis, whose birthstone is opal.
Jason confessed that he, too, is “knee-deep right now in the Swiftie Easter egg hunting.”
“You know I am, because I keep sending you and Tay stuff I keep reading,” he told Travis. “I know you guys don’t want to read it but I’m freaking going to make you guys read it because I’m interested. You guys aren’t giving me (bleeping) anything, which is (ticking) me off even more.”
“She’s good at keeping the Easter eggs,” Travis laughed.
“I’m a very untrustworthy person, I get it,” said Jason. “And I wouldn’t trust me either. I can’t keep a secret to save my life. I get excited.”
Apparently, Travis gets excited too. Later, he seemed to share a little too much when Jason asked if Swift was happy with her episode.
“Oh yeah, she walked away like flying around. She was having so much fun getting to tell everybody about the album and obviously dropping a few Easter eggs and see if everyone caught on,” Travis said.
“So there are Easter eggs!” Jason exclaimed.
Travis went silent. A deer-in-headlights look flashed across his face.
“I only know so much, Jason,” he mumbled.
But Jason interrogated hm about a specific decoration Swift’s fans had noticed on a bookshelf behind the singer during the podcast. They thought it hinted that maybe Swift was leading them astray about something.
“What’s that Pinocchio doing behind you?” Jason asked Travis.
“What do you mean?” Travis said.
“Is it still there?” Jason said.
“Yeah, little Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket,” Travis said.
“Who is Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio? What does he represent?” Jason prodded.
“Aren’t they Disney ... characters?” Travis said.
Jason let his brother off the hook.
“All right, let’s move on,” he said.
So did Swift really drop Easter Eggs two weeks ago? Some fans believe she dropped hints that she will perform at the Super Bowl in San Francisco next year.
For one thing, she spent several minutes talking about making sourdough bread. Super Bowl LX will be played in Levi’s Stadium, home of the 49ers, whose mascot is Sourdough Sam.
She also mentioned the number 47. Her fans noted that the 47th stop on her Eras Tour stop was at Levi’s Stadium.
“I love putting so much into the tour or a music video, or events or activities for them to do, or Easter eggs or little puzzles for them to solve,” Swift said on the podcast. “Like, it’s gotten to the point where it’s just, it’s a little bit ... like the Easter eggs thing is getting a little Zodiac Killer at this point.”
The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer in the San Francisco area in the late 1960s, by the way.
Jason, who called the episode featuring his future sister-in-law “a doozy,” had “Swift stats” to prove it.
“Within the first 72 hours of Taylor’s debut on ‘New Heights’ there were 379 million views on Instagram, including a record-breaking IG reel,” Jason said. “The most viewed IG reel of all time happened in this time frame, which is crazy.”
The episode also earned 61.6 million views on Twitter, 34.5 million views on TikTok and another 15 million views on YouTube, all within the first 72 hours.
The podcast also surpassed 3 million followers on Instagram and gained more than 400,000 new YouTube subscribers
“Thank you Tay,” Travis said.
“It’s all downhhill from here,” said Jason. “We’ll never touch anything remotely close to this. Unless Taylor wants to come out with another album, and even then people are going to be tired of listening to us.”
Jason said hearing Swift describe Travis as a “human exclamation point” gave him a new nickname for his brother.
He told Travis “there’s just a way about you that you’ve always been a magnetic human being and you’ve gotten the best out of people. And when she said you were a human exclamation point, I’m like ... damn ... that is a great way to describe Travis Kelce.
“That might be, that’s better than Big Yeti. The human exclamation point. That’s my new nickname for Travis Kelce. Stealing that one.”
