Chiefs fans will be glued to their couches all night as they watch the team try to win three straight Super Bowls Sunday.

Kansas City takes on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, a rematch of Super Bowl LVII from 2023. The Chiefs come into Sunday’s game at 17-2 and the AFC’s No. 1 seed, while the Eagles have a record of 17-3 and were the NFC’s No. 2 seed.

The game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Central Standard Time. This is 6:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time and 3:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

You know when the game starts, but when does it end? Here’s a look at past Super Bowls and when fans saw their teams finish the season with a championship.

How long does the Super Bowl take?

The game itself is scheduled for four, 15-minute quarters, but NFL games always take longer than 60 minutes. The Super Bowl is no exception. And most of the time, it’s longer than the average game because of the halftime show.

The length of the game will depend on what happens on the field: how many media and injury timeouts there are, if teams step out of bounds to stop the clock, when teams call timeouts, how many times the teams score, referees hold reviews and other in-game plays. If the game goes into overtime, like Chiefs fans saw in 2024, the game will only last longer.

Sports Illustrated found the average game length for Super Bowls played from 2004 to 2024 was 3 hours and 38 minutes. If that average holds for 2025, fans can expect the game to conclude around 9:08 p.m. CST.

Average NFL games take around 3 hours and 12 minutes, according to Pro Football Network.

How long did the Chiefs’ Super Bowls take?

In terms of on-field gameplay, the Chiefs have the honor of playing in the longest Super Bowl ever in 2024. Their overtime victory against the San Francisco 49ers took 74 minutes and 57 seconds of game time to come to an end, but the total duration of the game was 4 hours and 6 minutes.

In the last 20 years, only one game was longer: Baltimore versus San Francisco in 2012, which took a total of 4 hours and 14 minutes after the lights went out at Caesars Superdome, delaying the second half for 34 minutes. The 2025 game returns to the same venue.

Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles in 2023 took 3 hours and 31 minutes, Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Buccaneers took 3 hours and 35 minutes and Super Bowl LIV against San Francisco took 3 hours and 29 minutes.
